Bacterial Plaque<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The most common irritant is the bacterial plaque that builds up on your teeth after a meal. If left to sit, the bacteria creeps down into the pockets between your teeth and gums, continuing to multiply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While this may seem obvious, it\u2019s more about technique than the action itself. Angle your toothbrush so the bristles are gently moving against the area between the gums and teeth, continuing to make small circles. Use floss to remove plaque and other irritants from between your teeth as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rinse Your Mouth with Salty Water<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Salt is one of the oldest known anti-bacterial. Place a teaspoon or two in a glass of warm water. Then, swish it around your mouth and between your teeth for a minute, being careful not to swallow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drink Plenty of Water<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of water, you\u2019ll need to drink a lot of it to maintain your oral health. Your gums rely on saliva to stay moist and fight infections. They are far more vulnerable to bacteria when they\u2019re dry. Water will stimulate saliva production, wash away food particles, and keep your gums healthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Do I Need to Go to the Dentist?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If your gums continue to worsen despite attempting to clean and treat them yourself, or if the condition persists, it\u2019s time to visit the dentist. They can provide more aggressive and effective treatments than you can do at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While you can take steps to treat your gum disease, it\u2019s best to get regular dental screening and prevent the condition in the first place. Ensure that you visit them at least twice a year, especially if you\u2019re having issues with your gums. Effective treatment can make all the difference for your oral health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
